Razer has just announced something a bit different for the battlestation setup: a gaming chair with RGB lighting that actually reacts to what’s happening on your screen. The Razer Soma Chroma marks the brand’s first foray into RGB gaming chairs, and it’s launching as the opening act in a new line of immersive seating designed specifically for gamers who want every part of their setup pulling in the same direction.
Most gaming chairs over the years have focused purely on ergonomics or aesthetics, rarely both, and rarely with any real connection to what you’re actually doing on screen. The Soma Chroma tries to close that gap by syncing Razer Chroma RGB lighting with the action happening in your game, rather than just sitting there as static decoration.
The Chroma RGB Reactive Game Lighting works across more than 300 integrated games. Rather than running a generic light show, the chair reads what’s happening on screen and reacts accordingly. Through Razer Synapse, players can fine-tune the effect across 16.8 million colours and ten presets, so there’s plenty of room to match the chair to your setup or mood.
Underneath the lighting, Razer has clearly put some thought into the ergonomics side of things too. The Soma Chroma features a Built-In Ergonomic Lumbar Arch paired with a Dual-Density Cold-Cured Foam Seat Cushion, aimed at keeping support consistent whether you’re an hour into a session or six hours deep. The lumbar curve is designed to cradle the lower back and encourage a more neutral posture, which, if it works as intended, should help with the kind of fatigue that creeps in during longer sessions.
The backrest reclines up to 155 degrees, giving players the flexibility to sit upright during competitive play or lean right back between matches. It’s good for those who’d like to catch up on a show or taking a breather mid-session.
The chair runs off a single USB Type-C connection, which can be powered either from a wall outlet or a standard power bank, keeping the cable clutter around your desk to a minimum without tethering the chair in place.
A Built-In Control Panel rounds things out, letting users switch between lighting effects, adjust brightness, and toggle between PC (via a 2.4GHz USB dongle) or mobile (via Bluetooth through the Razer Furniture App) connections without digging through menus.
On the durability front, the Soma Chroma sits on a reinforced steel frame with a 5-star steel wheelbase, which should give it the stability to handle years of regular use rather than just looking good for the unboxing photos.
What’s Razer Soma Chroma Price and when will it be available?
Razer Soma Chroma retails for AU$749.95 and is available now at Razer.com, RazerStores, and select retailers worldwide (External power bank, power adapter, and USB Type-C extension cable are not included)
