Chase seems dead-set on celebrating Christmas in June after rolling out big bonus offers on a slew of popular business cards. If you’re a small business owner (and trust us, you just might be), these cards and their massive bonus offers warrant a good, hard look.

Before we get into the nitty-gritty of what makes these cards perfect for small business owners, it’s important to set a foundation for who is actually eligible to open business cards.
To open a business credit card, you don’t need a full-time business with employees or six-figure revenues.
Do you have any income from freelance work, or plans to start freelance work? You have a business. Have you ever sold an item on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Etsy, or other platforms, or have plans to do so in the future? You have a business.
At the end of the day, if you are selling any goods or services, or contracting with a company to do so in an attempt to make a profit, you have a small business and thus are typically eligible to apply for a small business credit card. That makes it possible for just about anybody to apply for a business credit card.
Just keep in mind: You should never lie or attempt to mislead a bank when applying for a business credit card. It’s important to have a legitimate business, even if that business is a small one.

So, what can you do with 200,000 (or even 100,000) Chase points? In two words: A lot.
The beauty of Chase points is just how valuable – and flexible – they are. That’s a tough question to answer, as there’s truly no one-size-fits-all answer: It really depends on your small business’s spending patterns.
Beyond big bonus offers, the most important consideration will likely be the annual fees. At risk of stating the obvious, there’s a pretty big gap between the no-annual-fee Ink Cards and the $795 per-year Sapphire Reserve for Business.
But annual fees don’t tell the full story. With the Sapphire for Business, you’re getting $7,000-plus in value (Chase’s words, not mine) between the bonus and annual statement credits and perks. Admittedly, most business owners will struggle to make full use of all the card’s benefits, but even if you only capitalize on the easy-to-use annual $300 travel credit and the annual $500 “The Edit” hotel credit, you’ll still come out ahead on the annual fee. At that point, the big bonus and everything else are really just icing on the cake.
After weighing the bonus offers and annual fees, the next thing you’ll want to consider is where your business spends most.
With the Sapphire Reserve for Business, you’ll earn a whopping 8x points on Chase Travel℠ purchases, 4x points on flights and hotels booked directly, 3x points on social media and search engine ads, and 1x points on everything else. The (uncapped) 3x on social media and search engine ads really stands out here as that’s a big expense for a lot of business these days, and the Sapphire Reserve for Business is the absolute card to use.
If you’re spending big on telecommunications or office supplies for your business, the *Ink Cash* earns 5% cashback (5x points) on internet, cable, and phone service, and at office supply stores. You’ll also earn 2% cashback (2x points) on gas … and we can all use a little help at the pump lately.
Meanwhile, the *chase ink unlimited* is about as good an all-around business-spending card as you’ll find – especially for having no annual fee. If none of the spending categories above stick out, but you’ll still be racking up some serious business expenses, earning 1.5% cashback (1.5x points) on all purchases is a stellar return.
Finally, there’s the cards’ minimum spending requirements. With both of the Ink Cards, you’ll need to spend $8,000 in the first four months – a more-manageable average of $2,000 per month. With the Sapphire Reserve for Business Card’s $30,000 spending requirement, you get a full six months to get it done – but that still averages out to $5,000 per month.
Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to meet your minimum spend requirement on a new business card without going on an irresponsible shopping spree.
If you’ve applied for or read about Chase credit cards, you’ve likely come across the bank’s dreaded 5/24 rule.
Chase won’t accept applications if you’ve opened five or more cards in the last 24 months from any bank – not just Chase. With business cards, that same rule applies … kind of.
For starters, you will need to be under the 5/24 limit to get approved for a Chase Ink Business card … but that approval won’t add to your 5/24 count. So if you’ve opened three or four credit cards in the last two years, it might be the perfect time to apply for one of these cards. That way, it won’t hinder any applications for other future Chase cards.
And there’s one other detail to keep in mind: Chase is now limiting bonus offers to one no-annual-fee card per lifetime. Chase hasn’t announced this change publicly, but the updated terms say it all: “The new cardmember bonus may not be available to you if you have ever had this card or any other Chase for Business card without an annual fee.”
That effectively wipes out the long-standing strategy of earning both Ink no-annual-fee bonuses or circling back to them every 24 months. Instead, Chase is giving itself broad discretion to deny bonuses based on your past accounts … or even more subjective “business factors.”
If you’ve had one (or both) of these Ink Cards before, the Sapphire Reserve for Business – and its bigger bonus offer – might be your only option. Thankfully, there’s no harm in checking whether or not you qualify for one of these cards. Chase recently added a new pop-up warning during application process that tells applicants whether or not they’re eligible.
